Social Media Trends for 2018
At Clapp Communications, we love staying on top of all the latest trends in social media. Plus, it’s part of our job! Our team has put together a list of what you can expect to see more of throughout different social media platforms as we move into 2018. Plan to utilize one or more of these tips in your company’s social strategy to boost your following this year!
We love Insta Stories! Over 200 million people use Instagram stories every day. It has quickly become an opportunity for brands to engage with customers by showcasing their company culture. Expect to see brands utilizing Instagram Stories a lot more in 2018. And what’s this we hear about video calling for Instagram? Stay tuned.
Video and livestreaming have become very popular over the last couple of years. So, it makes sense that Facebook Live and professional quality videos would continue to trend in 2018. Expect Facebook Watch to become more popular as major players capitalize on the feature’s success.
Many companies use influencers with a large following on social media to raise awareness of their brands. Large following = large budget. With micro-influencers or users who have thousands or tens of thousands of followers, you can still reach your target audience without spending your entire marketing budget.
According to a recent study by Markerly, as an influencer’s follower total increases, the rate of follower engagement (likes and comments) decreases. Expect more local business owners to partner with micro-influencers to develop a more authentic voice. Also, expect more exclusivity and long-term relationships.
With messenger apps continuing to be popular and artificial intelligence and chatbots offering more personalized experiences, expect brands to start connecting on messenger platforms like Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp.
Social media platforms are finding ways to jump on the AR trend. Facebook has already launched the beta version of Facebook Spaces, a virtual reality hangout where you can create your own avatar and interact with friends in various activities as if they were sitting next to you. Also, Snapchat and Instagram are in talks to support filters that allow users to take a selfie with a friend or celebrity projection.
